Mette Termansen was born in 1981 and began playing the oboe at the age of 11.

In 2001, Mette took up an offer to study oboe at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Copenhagen, with Professor Ole-Henrik Dahl and Bjørn Carl Nielsen. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies in 2005, Mette followed an invitation by Gordon Hunt to pursue an advanced training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

In addition to Gordon Hunt, Mette received key artistic input from Helena Gaunt, David Walter, Richard Simpson and Jane Marshall. Whilst a student in London, Mette appeared in venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, and, as part of her studies played alongside the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Throughout her Masters of Music course, Mette’s studies were supported by a variety of trusts and charities.

Mette was selected to become a member of the Southbank Sinfonia, London in 2008. The experiences on the one-year orchestral academy programme included performing André Previn’s music for Tom Stoppard’s play Every Good Boy Deserves Favour at the Royal National Theatre, London. Further collaborations included working with British Youth Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. In addition to her orchestral duties, Mette was selected to be the soloist in a performance of Peter Wiegold’s concerto for cor anglais and strings, Earth Receive An Honoured Guest with the Soutbank Sinfonia, with the composer conducting.

Since 2008 Mette is a student on the Advanced Postgraduate Course, the Solistclass, at the Royal Academy in Århus. Her debut concert will be in May 2010.

Mette’s current work is diverse: as a freelance orchestral player, Mette has performed with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, Malmø Symphony Orchestra, Helsinborg Symphony Orchestra, Odense Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Opera. Mette has featured as an orchestral player with Malmø Symphony Orchestra on a recording for Naxos, and an oboe and piano recital CD forms a forthcoming project in the United Kingdom.
